The Islamic Republic of Iran's Activities and Achievements in the Field of Combating Narcotic Drugs (September 2020)
Narcotic Drug Seizure in September 2020 About 59074 kg of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized throughout Iran in September. The highest seized type was Opium with 45492 kg, followed by 4119 kg of Hashish, 3643 kg of Grass, 2500 kg of Heroin, 671 kg of other substances including precursors and psychotropic pills and 497 kg of Crystal. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Welfare Organization and the Vocational Organization A MoU was signed between the Welfare and Technical and Vocational Organizations, aimed at setting up vocational training workshops on stone forming and repairing of home appliances for people with drug use disorders at the comprehensive treatment center of Khorasan Razavi province. Creation of Job Opportunities for 20 Recovered Women in South Khorasan Province With efforts of the private sector, Municipality of Birjand City Camp created employment for 20 women recovering from addiction in the province of South Khorasan. Upon identification, the women were introduced to the camp for receiving treatment and after undergoing a 3-month course including various teachings such as sewing, knitting and towel weaving, they entered the labor market. Cooperation between Iran and Malaysia in Anti-Narcotics The Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia met with the Director General of the Anti-Narcotics Agency of Malaysia. The two sides emphasized on the need for strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the fight against narcotic drugs. Exchange of information and experiences in the field of public education and rehabilitation of people with drug use disorders was discussed as well. Cooperation between the Prisons Organization and the Drug Control Headquarters In the joint meeting of the Head of the Prisons Organization and the Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters, the development of joint cooperation with the aim of combating drug use disorders was emphasized. It was also decided to form a working group to develop cooperation, review priorities, determine the status of the camps and to draft a memorandum of cooperation. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime During a meeting between Ms. Ghada Wali, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and Mr. Mohsen Baharvand, Deputy Foreign Minister for International and Legal Affairs, Iran's latest measures in combatting narcotic drugs were reviewed and the need to support these was expressed. Reduction of Prevalence of Drug Use Disorders among High School Students Dr. Eskandar Momeni, Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters announced that successful outcomes have been reached in reducing the prevalence of narcotic drug use among high school students: "One of the effective factors in this regard has been the implementation of the Life Assistance Plan."
