Thirty‑one years ago, on 18 July 1994, a building in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, was bombed. From the outset, elements and entities linked to the Zionist regime exploited this suspicious explosion, pushing the investigation down a false and misleading path, among whose consequences was to disrupt the long‑standing relations between the peoples of Iran and Argentina.
Over the past three decades, the Islamic Republic of Iran has repeatedly and transparently declared its position. Iran condemns every act of terrorism, wherever and by whomever it is committed, and insists that this dubious incident be investigated with full transparency and in accordance with the principles of a fair trial.
Completely rejecting the allegations against Iranian citizens, the Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the efforts of certain Argentine circles to pressure that country’s judiciary into making unfounded accusations and issuing pseudo‑judicial rulings, and demands that the real planners and perpetrators of the bombing be identified so that the truth is revealed and justice served.
With each passing year during the past 31 years, questions and doubts about the 1994 bombing have grown. Clear, undeniable evidence now shows the Zionist regime and its affiliates exerting influence on the Argentine judiciary to frame Iranian nationals.
The repeated changes in the judicial team handling the case, the exposure of corruption among certain judicial officials—some of whom were dismissed—the resignation of judges, and even assassination attempts against them, all point to a deliberate effort to divert Argentina’s judiciary from conducting a transparent and impartial investigation, with the aim of shielding the real perpetrators and masterminds of the bombing.
Although the Islamic Republic of Iran deems the accusations raised against its citizens baseless, it once engaged in talks with Argentine officials, solely to safeguard bilateral relations and defend the reputation of its wrongly accused citizens, culminating in a 2013 memorandum of understanding. Less than two years after signing the MoU, Argentina unilaterally revoked the agreement, blocking a transparent process that could have uncovered the true masterminds and perpetrators of the explosion, proving once more that the architects of this case are not seeking justice.
Reaffirming that the charges against its citizens are unfounded, the Islamic Republic of Iran insists on restoring their reputation and calls for an end to this staged legal proceeding. It expects Argentina’s judiciary to handle the case transparently, fairly, and free from politicization or improper third‑party interference.
Obviously, the Islamic Republic of Iran reserves, under international law, all legal and legitimate rights to respond to any unfounded or improper action taken against the country or its nationals and adopt appropriate methods in this regard
