The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmail Baqaei, rejected the renewed claim by U.S. officials regarding the alleged involvement of several Iranian nationals in what they refer to as the “disappearance” of an American national, Robert Levinson, around 18 years ago in an unspecified location in Southwest Asia. He described the claim as unfounded, diversionary, and misleading.   The Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized, “Despite repeated accusations against Iran over the case during the past 18 years, U.S. officials have consistently failed to present any credible evidence or documentation proving that the individual entered Iranian territory or that any incident involving him occurred in Iran. Instead, they have merely repeated previous allegations.”   Baqaei further stated that accusing Iranian citizens is a stereotypical tactic employed by the U.S. to evade accountability before its own public opinion regarding the realities surrounding this case.    The spokesperson rejected any Iranian involvement or knowledge of the matter and condemned the sanctioning and threatening of Iranian citizens under this pretext as arbitrary, unlawful, and unjustified, a move that violates international legal norms, particularly principles of human rights.    He pointed out that the U.S. government must be held accountable for such lawless behavior.
