Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is in New York to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly, met this morning with the Foreign Ministers of the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. In this joint meeting, which was also attended by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the course of the discussions held over the past month with a view to finding diplomatic solutions to the nuclear issue of Iran and preventing an escalation of tensions was reviewed. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while elaborating on Iran’s principled positions and concrete steps taken in recent months to dispel any doubt or pretext regarding Iran’s nuclear program, characterized the unlawful and criminal attacks against Iran and the damage inflicted upon its nuclear installations as a dark and perilous chapter in the history of the non-proliferation regime. Referring to Iran’s most recent responsible initiative in concluding an understanding with the International Atomic Energy Agency for the performance of its safeguards obligations under the new circumstances, he emphasized the necessity of reciprocal and responsible action on the part of the European sides in this regard. In this meeting, in view of the unjustified and unlawful initiation of the process of reimposing the annulled sanctions of the Security Council, certain ideas and proposals for the continuation of diplomacy were put forward, and it was agreed that consultations with all parties concerned should continue.
