Statement by Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran   The 11 Conference of States Parties of the United Nations Convention against Corruption Agenda Item 5 Recovery of assets   In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful Mr. President; At the outset, my delegation appreciates your commendable efforts in leading this session and I thank the secretariat for the submission of documents in due time.   Mr. President;   My delegation would like to highlight the significant role of return and recovery of assets and proceed of crime in prevention and combatting corruption. In this vein, full and effective implementation of chapter 5, as a fundamental principle of the United Nations Convention against Corruption is of utmost   In this regard, efficient and responsive collaboration and cooperation between requesting and requested states and affording one another the widest measures of mutual legal assistance during the investigation, prosecution, and judicial proceeding play a key role in to fight against corruption in particular in return and recovery of asset and proceeds of crime.   Mr. President, Unilateral Coercive Measures severely impede the timely and effective return and recovery of assets and proceeds of crime, obstructing international cooperation and denying victims their rightful redress. Such measures not only undermine the integrity of the Convention but also contravene fundamental principles of international law, and therefore cannot be considered legitimate under any circumstances.   Asset recovery is not merely a procedural obligation but a fundamental component of States Parties' obligations under the Convention. By denying safe haven to the proceeds of crime, ensuring their prompt return to the requesting States or their State of origin, and compensating the victims, States Parties directly strengthen the integrity of public institutions, reinforce public trust, and remove the economic incentives that drive corrupt practices.   We have joined the GlobE Network, we will soon join the Mekka Convention. We reaffirm the importance of reliable methods and mechanisms for the Parties for the Exchange of Information, taking all necessary measures to protect the Information exchanged under their relevant provisions.   We have highlighted asset recovery measures in our draft national strategy document, and of course, the law of Iran's Seventh Development Plan includes the obligation to return assets resulting from corruption.   We welcome any initiative for recovery, provided there is goodwill and consideration from others parties, especially the States of origin of such assets and proceeds.     Thank you for your attention.
