Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the New US Economic Sanctions Against Iran
Simultaneously with the anniversary of the infamous coup of 28 Mordad 1332 (19 August 1953) the ruling establishment of the United States claimed to impose extensive economic and commercial sanctions against the Iranian nation. This action is not only another sign of the continuation of 73 years of hostility and enmity by American policymakers toward the Iranian people but also proof of the anti-human law-breaking and arrogant nature of the US ruling establishment.

Foreign Ministry Statement marks 28th anniversary of terrorist attack on Iran’s consulate in Mazar-i-Sharif and martyrdom of Iranian diplomats
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran commemorates the anniversary of the martyrdom of Iranian diplomats and a correspondent of the Islamic Republic of Iran News Agency (IRNA) during the terrorist attack on the building of Iran’s Consulate General in Mazar-i-Sharif Afghanistan on August 8 1998. Twenty-eight years ago on this day the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mazar-i-Sharif came under attack by armed terrorists resulting in the martyrdom of eight dedicated members of our staff — Heidar-Ali Bagheri Mohammad-Ali Qiyasi Majid Nouri Niaraki Nasser Rigi Noorollah Norouzi Karim Heydarian Rashid Pariyav Fallah and Mohammad-Nasser Naseri — along with Mahmoud Saremi a correspondent of IRNA. The terrorist attack on Iran’s Consulate General in Mazar-i-Sharif and the killing of its personnel constituted a heinous crime and a flagrant violation of diplomatic and consular rights the gravity of which cannot be diminished by the passage of time. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran while commemorating the memory of our dear martyrs and extending congratulations on Journalists’ Day stresses the need to shed light on important aspects of this terrorist crime including identifying its perpetrators and masterminds and ensuring justice and will make use of every opportunity and avenue available to pursue this matter.

The painful legacy of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki is a sharp reminder of the deep human suffering caused by these horrible weapons.
The widespread death and destruction and deadly radiation that harmed even unborn generations prove that the only absolute guarantee to stop such a dark tragedy from happening again is the total elimination of all nuclear weapons before they destroy us all. Yet the U.S.— the only country that has ever used nuclear weapons and a Depositary of the NPT — continues to expand and modernize its nuclear weapon arsenal as part of its 56 years of non-compliance with its nuclear disarmament obligations under that Treaty leaving all of humanity living under a continuous threat.
