Narcotic Drug seizures in August 2020
- About 67413 kg of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized throughout the country.
- The highest seized type was Opium with 54005 kg, followed by 5852 kg of Hashish, 3119 kg of Grass, 1761 kg of other substances including precursors and psychotropic pills, 1108 kg of Crystal, 1252 kg of Heroin and 316 kg of Morphine.
5143 Tons of Drug Seizure over the Past 7 Years
The Deputy Director for Supply and International Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran's Drug Control Headquarters stated that: "during this period, a total of 5143 tons of narcotics have been seized through 15020 armed conflict operations by the military, police and intelligence forces with drug traffickers.
Counteraction to Prevalence of Drug Use Disorders among Students
Dr. Eskandar Momeni, Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, said that growth of prevalence of drug use disorders among students have been reduced and added that the Life Assistance Project and other relevant projects have played an important role in achieving this, and it is hoped to witness reduction in social harms.
Western Countries Using Sanctions as an Excuse for Reducing Contributions to Iran in the Combat against Narcotic Drugs
The Drug Control Headquarters spokesperson stressed that Western countries failed in their commitments under the pretext of unilateral sanctions against Iran by fulfilling only 30% of their international counter-narcotics commitments. He added that despite lack of international support, Iran will not stop its efforts in counter-narcotics and cooperation with the United Nations.
Creation of 213 Job Opportunities for Recovered Persons in Fars Province
In Fars Province, two entrepreneurs started activities in offering job opportunities to recovered persons, creating 109 jobs in the field of service activities and 104 in the field of industry. This step enabled recovered addicts to return to social life.
Drafting of a new Anti-Narcotic Law
The Chief of Anti-Narcotic Police announced that a new anti-narcotics law has been drafted. Noting that the draft has been achieved together with the cooperation of the Drug Control Headquarters and the Prosecutor's Office, he added as follows: "We hope that through support and cooperation of the Parliament, the balance between crime and punishment will be maintained."
Allocation of 25% of the Welfare Employment Budget for the Employment of Recovered Addicts
The Director General of Hamedan Province's Welfare Organization announced that according to new agreements, over 25% of the welfare employment credit will be allocated to the employment of people recovered from drug use disorders.
Inclusion of Addiction Treatment Costs to Health Insurance
With the Drug Control Headquarters support and the approval of Iran's Parliament, addiction treatment insurance was reestablished in public and private treatment centers after a one-year hiatus, in the beginning of this year.
