Narcotic Drug Seizure from 14 November to 27 December 2020
- About 110020 kg of various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances were seized throughout Iran from 14 November to 27 December 2020.
- The highest seized type was Opium with 85227 kg, followed by 9400 kg of Hashish, 6470 kg of other substances including precursors and psychotropic pills, 2760 kg of Crystal, 2518 kg of Heroin, 2287 kg of Morphine and 1366 kg of Grass.
Communication with the UNODC Executive Director on Iran's Seizures in 2020
Dr. Kazem Gharib Abadi, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Vienna informed the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) on Iran’s latest anti-drug achievements in the first 10 months of 2020, according to which, more than 778 tons of narcotics were seized by Iran in this period, with great efforts of Iran's law enforcement and security agencies. The largest amount of these seizures is Opium with 621388 kg, followed by 76626 kg of Hashish, 25336 kg of other narcotics, 22815 kg of Heroin, 17500 kg of Morphine and 14458 kg of Methamphetamine. It is also mentioned that during this period, 9 Iranian officers were martyred.
UNODC Iran Country Representative Appreciating the Workshop on Treatment of Semi Amphetamine Drug Use
In a letter to the Iranian Drug Control Headquarters, Alexander Fedulov, the Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in Tehran, appreciated holding a successful virtual workshop on semi amphetamine treatment for medical and health professionals in Afghanistan, organized by the National Center for Addiction Studies of Iran. Praising Iran’s efforts in sharing its expertise in this filed, Mr. Fedulov also reflected the positive feedback of the participants about the professionalism of the workshop.
The Director of CARICC Welcomed Iran's Presence in the Center
In a meeting with the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Almaty, Kazakhstan, the Director of the Central Asian Information Coordination Center for Counter-Narcotics valued Iran's presence in this arrangement as an important factor in increasing the center's capacity and expanding bilateral and regional cooperation in the combat against drug trafficking. He also welcomed Iran’s membership in this center, and stated that “Iran's presence in this center will significantly increase its capacity and work efficiency.“
Iranian and Chinese Anti-Narcotics Police to Increase Information and Experience Exchange
During a webinar, the Chief of the Iranian Anti-Narcotics Police and the Executive Secretary of the Chinese National Narcotics Control Commission discussed measures for combating drug trafficking and expressed their hope that through promoting bilateral interactions, positive and beneficial results will be achieved in the field of combating narcotic drugs.
Online Course on "Training of Specialists for Primary Addiction Prevention“
An online course titled "Training of Specialists in Primary Addiction Prevention" was held by the University of Tehran for member countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), attended by the ECO Deputy Secretary General and representatives of Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The first meeting of the World Association of Addiction Medicine in Asia and the 14th International Congress on Addiction Science has been held on national and international levels with the participation of experts and activists in related fields. The meetings were hosted virtually by the National Center for Addiction Studies of the Islamic Republic of Iran where lectures, specialized panels, articles and other scientific works in various fields were presented and topics such as clinical, humanities and social sciences were discussed.
Implementation of Life Assistant Plan in 40.000 Schools
According to the Secretary General of the Drug Control Headquarters of the Islamic Republic of Iran, distance learning at schools enabled to extend the Life Assistants Plan up to 40,000. Since the implementation of this plan, a serious reduction of addiction among students has been witnessed.
Media Campaign for Addiction Prevention in Kermanshah Province
A Media Campaign for addiction prevention at workplace was started in Kermanshah province, aimed at raising awareness, preventing from burnouts caused by job stress, educating on misconceptions about drug use and developing skills for early prevention of drug use at workplaces.
Inauguration of a New Special Accommodation Center for Addicted Women with Drug Use Disorders in Shiraz City
The fifth non-governmental residential center for women with drug use disorders was opened in Fars Province, with a capacity of up to 100 persons and appropriate facilities for care, treatment and harm reduction.
Training of 450 People in the Field of Addiction Prevention in Gorgan City
More than 450 people have been trained in the field of addiction prevention in Gorgan City so far. There are 25 non-governmental centers under the supervision of the University of Medical Sciences in the field of addiction reduction and prevention in Golestan Province.
