Iran has always stressed promotion of OPEC's global position, role in the global oil market

Speaking in a meeting with Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo on Friday afternoon, after hearing the Secretary General's report on the market situation and oil production, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi said, "As an effective member of OPEC, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes the promotion of the organisation's global position and increasing its role in managing the global energy market”.

Referring to the efforts of some powers to weaken the position of OPEC, the President stressed, "The OPEC Secretariat should consider the rights and interests of member states as the basis for adopting all measures and implementing all mechanisms”.

Congratulating on the 60th anniversary of OPEC’s establishment, Dr Raisi expressed hope that the organisation would become more active and that members would act more constructive and coordinated in the coming period, saying, "The OPEC Secretariat should play a more active role for more cooperation among member and non-member countries”.

At the same meeting, the Secretary General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo also presented a report on the market situation and the amount of oil production, and described Iran one of the founders of the OPEC which has always played a key role.

"In the coming term, we need the support and cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to advance the goals of OPEC," Barkindo said.
