Iran statement at the 69th COPUOS under Agenda Item 15

Space Exploration and Innovation

Statement by the Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran

at the 69th Session of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space

69th COPUOS

Agenda Item 15: Space Exploration and Innovation

Vienna-17 June 2026

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Mr. Chairman,

The Islamic Republic of Iran, relying on indigenous launch vehicles and the use of international services, has fully consolidated its orbital presence through the successful launch of university, research, and private-sector satellites. In promoting the principle of equitable access to outer space, Iran reiterates its readiness to allocate launch capacity from its domestic launch systems for the orbital deployment of academic and university satellites from other countries.

Within the framework of peaceful international cooperation, the Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes the acceptance of its scientific payload on lunar surface potential measurement aboard the Chang’e-8 lunar lander of the People’s Republic of China—an initiative that represents a concrete embodiment of the Outer Space Treaty’s provisions on international cooperation and equitable exploration of outer space.

In the fields of space science and astrophysics, Iran has, over the past decade, contributed significantly to the advancement of human knowledge and the promotion of astronomy by providing observational data from its observatories to the global academic community.

Despite the unilateral coercive measures, the Islamic Republic of Iran, relying on its right of equitable access to outer space and in pursuit of countering technological monopolization, will not only fully restore its affected capabilities but also reaffirm its determination to realize the objectives of Article X of the Outer Space Treaty, which emphasizes the promotion of equality and international cooperation in the exploration of space missions of other States.

Thank you Mr. Chairman
