Statement
Delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran
Ministerial Council Session of OPEC Fund for International Development
Vienna, Austria, June 17–18, 2025
In the Name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Your Excellencies,
Distinguished Ministers,
His Excellency Dr. Alkhalifa, Esteemed President of the OPEC Fund,
It is a great honor to address this august body. I extend my gratitude to the OPEC Fund for bringing us together at a crucial juncture for global development.
We are meeting at a very critical time, when the Israeli regime has committed an aggression and unlawful armed attack against Iran in grave violation of international law and the UN Charter, resulting to date in the martyrdom of more than 200 civilians and injuries of more than 1000 peoples.
Security is the key element and prerequisite for development. Let me briefly express our views on the key agenda items:
- We must manage our natural and financial resources wisely, balancing short-term needs with long-term sustainability. Iran advocates for stronger regional cooperation to enhance resilience and diversifying economies.
- We urge the Fund to prioritize the needs of vulnerable and low-income countries, ensuring targeted, inclusive support that fosters stability and growth.
- Development financing should evolve. Blended finance, innovative instruments, and South-South cooperation must be expanded to meet today’s complex challenges.
- We support equitable digital transformation. Digital tools should serve development, close inequality gaps, and respect data sovereignty and ethics.
Together, let us hope for peace and build an international financial order that is just, inclusive, and resilient, one that meets the needs of today while safeguarding the promise of tomorrow. The Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to its obligations towards the OPEC Fund for International Development and consistently supports the expansion of cooperation aimed at achieving shared goals. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation for the collaboration of the esteemed President of the OPEC Fund, and his distinguished colleagues, particularly in organizing the Technical and Engineering Services Export Workshop and the first OPEC Fund Simulation Event held in Iran in May 2025. These collaborative efforts represent a significant step toward strengthening our joint capacities and advancing sustainable development.
Thank you.
